Biography
Andrea DiCarlo
Andrea DiCarlo is a watercolor artist based in New York City, whose work focuses on the everyday world around us – landscapes, nature, and cityscapes. She explores color and simple forms that bring spontaneity, lightness, and joy to people’s everyday lives.
As a ceramic artist and co-owner of Flatiron Clay Studios in NYC from 1991-1997, she participated in Smithsonian and Baltimore Craft Shows and produced limited ceramic editions, selling to US galleries and stores.
After retiring in 2019 from a rewarding 25-year executive management career, Andrea now focuses on watercolor painting.
Prior Education and Submissions
Attended SUNY, Plattsburgh, NY; graduated from Towson University, Maryland, 1973, B.A,. in Art.
Attended various classes at Art Student League and 92nd Street Y in NYC; 2019- 2025.
Work exhibited – DiMarco Sisters Show, Cunneen-Hackett Art Center, Poughkeepsie, NY February-March 2020

Artist statement
Andrea DiCarlo – Artist Statement 2025
I see the world with an artist’s eye. Throughout my life, I’ve been drawn to capturing my perceptions using varied media; oils, clay, printmaking, fabric, knitting, collage, paper cut-outs, watercolor and pastels.
The spontaneity, freshness and timeless design of Matisse and Picasso, and the seemingly effortless brushstroke of Oriental writings have been influential. Using color and simple forms, I create a world of spontaneity, a lightness of being, and joy.
There is no picture already out there to be painted, other than my commitment to discover and create. Once I’ve committed the brush to paper, I ongoingly deal with being free to create - not knowing, engaging with what’s so, not how it should be.
While creating art is a personal experience for me, I find that without sharing and being connected to a supportive community, there is little possibility for me to make a difference in people’s lives by opening their view to my perception. This is the contribution that my work brings.
