Biography
Barbara was born in São Paulo, Brazil, where she grew up and attended American schools. She came to the US at 17 to attend university, where she met her husband of 39 years.
Her artistic journey began in 2013 as a cathartic means of coping with the sadness and anguish left by the untimely death of her older brother. This has led her to seek order, acceptance, and the unpredictability of life by way of experimentation in visual arts and its many mediums.
She has participated in many Juried, Solo, and Collaborative shows in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York.

Artist statement
My work is characterized by an emotional narrative using color, shape, mark-making, and texture in an expressive and gestural manner. Energy and movement create complex and simple, orderly, or chaotic images.
I use surrounding nature and spaces for healing, restoration, and inspiration as a reminder that our planet, creatures, and fellow humans must be cared for and appreciated...a concept especially relevant in today's sterile world of technology, pandemic, and political fears.
My representational or abstract work is a link for viewers to reconnect to their surroundings, a visual experience that may spark emotions and thoughts.
