Practice and background

Daimy Muti is a handcraft artist from Amsterdam and designer working across ceramics, jewelry and textiles. Her studio describes an intuitive approach in which environments and materials help shape fluid forms.

In her 2024 CASAWI interview, she discusses learning independently and through one-to-one exchanges with artists in different places. At that time, she was making ceramics in an open studio in Mexico City. Travel introduces both techniques and everyday encounters into her practice.

She also values creative community. The MOAI gatherings discussed in the interview offered a place to exchange resources, ideas and difficulties. Meditation, journaling, music and time alone in nature help her recover a playful approach.

Busy Blooming offers an entry into her ceramic vocabulary: a rippling rim and curved handle suggest growth and movement. Alongside her silver jewelry, it invites comparison between sculptural forms in space and small objects worn close to the body.

Asked which single artwork she would save in a fire, she chooses the pale, multi-opening sculpture shown beside the window. She explains that she made it in Mexico City and brought it with her. Her answer connects the object to the difficulty and experience of making it: its value is inseparable from the journey behind it.
