Biography
Ellen Alt is a mixed media materials artist. She has exhibited her work in the U.S, Germany, Russia, China, England, and the Middle East. One of her pieces was presented to Hillary Clinton on the occasion of the peace treaty between Israel and Jordan and is in the collection at the White House. Ms. Alt also organizes community sculpture and mural projects throughout the world, which focus on social change. She holds an MA in studio art from New York University and a BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and lives in New York City.
Artist statement
Ellen Alt (b. 1954) is a mixed media materials-based artist in New York City. Her work is deeply rooted in languages, patterns, and communication. She has created a substantial body of work focused on the climate crisis, celebrating materials that reveal the natural beauty of ice in transition while highlighting the implications of its transformation.
Her current series continues to explore the natural world, incorporating elements such as precious metals, rare earth elements, and organic materials like moss, grass, bark, and fog.
Ellen's recent projects delve into television transmission, using it both as an iconic object and as a means of conveying nostalgia for a time when shared content fostered less divisive communication and greater cooperation.
In addition to her artistic work, Ellen facilitates community sculpture and mural projects, sharing the creative process worldwide. She holds an MA in Studio Art from New York University and a BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
