Biography
Ellen Pliskin, a New York City native, is an artist whose primary focus lies in the exploration of the naural world through watercolors, printmaking and photography. Her artistic vision ofen incorporates architectural elements, creating illusionistic passages of place within her work.
Pliskin maintained studios in both New York City and Cheshire, Connecticut, allowing her to draw inspiration from both urban and rural landscapes. She pursued her education in Fine Arts at The School of Visual Arts (SVA), later earning degres from Hunter College and Fordham University.
Having exhibited extensively across the United States, Pliskin's art has also reached international audiences through the United States Department of State's "Art in Embassies Program." This platform has provided her with opportunities to showcase her creative expression on a global stage, further contributing to the dialogue between art and diplomacy. Pliskin's diverse body of work reflects her deep connection to nature, her exploration of architectural forms. and her commitment ot sharing her artistic vision on both national and international platforms.
Her works are in the permanent collections of Pfizer, The United States Department of State "Art in Embassies Program", Washington D.C., HIP (NY), The University of New Mexiico, The Hospital for Special Care, CT, UCONN HEALTH, CT, The Federal Reserve Board, Washington D.C. and the United States Department of State "Art Bank Program", Washington D.C.
Artist statement
I am an artist who uses layers of color to suggest real objects and places. Whether it is a watercolor painting, a silk aquatint monoprint, or a pastel figure drawing, the areas of color flow into each other and flood the entire sheet of paper. The color allows for a kind of transcendence with light and luminosity - a sense of grace. With the silk aquatint monoprint, I apply other media, such as watercolor and crayons adding another layer to the surface . This embellishment lets me explore the texture more deeply and allows me to achieve a richer look in the final work. This process culminates in a richer experience for both the artist and the viewer.
