Practice & background

Eva E. Foldy was born in Cleveland in 1994 and raised in Milwaukee. She received a Printmaking BFA from RISD in 2016 and a Painting and Printmaking MFA from VCU in 2026, followed by its 2026–2027 Post-Graduate Teaching Fellowship.

Her statement approaches apocalypse through gradual ecological and social breakdown rather than one spectacular event. Plants, animals, altered organisms and built environments become interdependent, unsettling a clear boundary between natural and artificial worlds.

Remedy, presented at ArtFields 2026, uses a familiar kitchen setting that becomes unsettling through frogs and dark red liquid inside a heated pot. Foldy connects the painting to political and climate anxiety, turning nourishment into an ambiguous action.

Her work appeared in New American Paintings, Issue 177. Her website organizes paintings by year alongside Daisyworld. Following its plant forms offers one way to notice how flowers can acquire agency and emotional weight.

In the Art Value Lab interview, she compares drawing to dreaming: incoming information is rearranged. Her attachment to The Daisy Assassination includes the memory of painting it and viewers’ responses, giving a personal entry into the relationship between fear and tenderness.

Looking at the work

Drawings develop into oil paintings through dreamlike recombination. Plants, animals and ordinary settings become carriers of emotional and ecological questions. In the interview, she connects unsettling or violent imagery to her experience of the world.

IN THE ARTIST’S WORDS

“And also, that flowers are a lot more interesting than you even know yet.”

A few words to look with

Printmaking

A family of processes that produce images through matrices, stencils or other indirect transfers. Beyond reproduction, reversal, layering, pressure and chance can become creative tools.

Organic form

Curves and irregular forms that suggest growth, living things or natural structures. The term does not mean that a work uses certified organic or necessarily natural materials.
