Practice & background
Flor Quinto grew up in Mexico before settling in California. Frequent childhood moves informed her attention to belongings and impermanence. Her practice developed from representational painting into mixed media with wax, resin and found objects.
The Sasse Museum of Art’s 2026 exhibition Between Attachment & Letting Go examines the tension between keeping and releasing. Used objects and fluid materials become ways to consider memory, attachment and beauty standards.
In Who Art You, she shows photographic transfers on wax and wooden-panel assemblages incorporating childhood keepsakes and found objects. Relationships among materials guide her compositions; she compares this open-ended arranging to childhood play.
She also opens making to other people, inviting visitors to press a transfer, wet the paper and rub away its fibres. The interview connects her personal relationships with objects to public moments of making and sharing a skill.

“I feel like the materials and the objects talk to each other, and I just kind of wait to see where they want to go.”Explore the conversation ↗

Image transfer
Moving an image from one surface to another. Flor Quinto demonstrates transfers onto wax; texture, incomplete transfer and the receiving object can reshape the image.
Found object
An existing object incorporated into art rather than made entirely from raw material. Its former function, wear and history may become part of the work’s meaning.
