Practice & background
Born in Dallas and raised in the Iranian diaspora, Haley Darya Parsa works in New York. She earned a BFA from the University of Texas at Austin in 2018 and works across painting, sculpture, printmaking and photography, attending to the histories embedded in everyday objects.
Persian carpets, flowers, food and family photographs recur as visual clues. Her Love Letter Paintings place plants from Texas and Iran, tea and domestic objects within a shared pictorial world, allowing cultural belonging to emerge through color, pattern and repetition.
The sun leaves me to find you combines silk prints, cyanotypes and dyed fabrics to consider distance and connection during the pandemic. In Who Art You, she discusses acrylic paintings drawn from family archives and singles out an apple-filled work for its complex composition and the time invested in it.
