Biography
Hilda has a BFA in Painting and Design from Carnegie Mellon University and an MA from Hunter College, NYC. Three instructors who influenced her were Josef Albers, Tony Smith, and George Sugarman. She received numerous national and regional fellowships including a Fulbright Fellowship to The Netherlands and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship to Italy. Some exhibitions include the Galeria Nacional in Costa Rico, the Westmoreland Museum of American Art in Greenberg, PA, and most recently, the Saginaw Museum of Art in MI and Iona College in New Rochelle, NY. She is a member of Pleiades Gallery, NYC., Mamaroneck Artists Guild, Larchmont, NY, and the Katonah Museum Artists Association in Katonah.
Artist statement
The inspiration for my paintings comes from places I’ve been and thoughts I have about nature. I feel energized when I see water. I grew up on the banks of the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania. The constantly changing movement, reflections, and color inspire me.
I enjoy working in a variety of materials, but my preference has always been oil paint. I love its fluidity and depth of color. My water paintings are metaphors for life flowing by, telling us to take the time to enjoy the beauty surrounding us.
