Ingrid Capozzoli Flinn

Biography

Ingrid Capozzoli Flinn is an artist who works in painting and drawing.  She is originally from the Midwest, has lived in New England and now lives and works in New York City.  She received a MFA from Boston University, a BFA at the University of Michigan and a BA from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.  She has been an artist for over thirty years working figuratively with a focus on color, light, form and space.  She works in primarily oil on canvas, but has also experimented with everything from traditional silverpoint on prepared paper and sumi ink to digital media.  Her work has been exhibited throughout the US in galleries and some museums in solo and group exhibitions and she has taught at colleges, universities and art schools in the Northeast.

Artist statement

I work primarily in oil paint, but also have experimented with water media, drawing materials and digital media.  My main subject is the figure in an interior space, primarily working with the female nude, but I have also has worked with other subject matter including head studies, interior window spaces and organic forms.  I use each subject as a vehicle of expression, transforming, and sometimes morphing to interpret the subject matter through color, light, form and space.  My interests are primarily formal, but I am also interested in process painting alla prima in many layers, scraping, sanding and glazing as needed with an emphasis on building the forms and space through layers of paint and mark making.  I am also interested in conveying a strong sense of light and a solid form that is expressive of something about the human experience.  In essence, I work both within the western historical tradition of painting but also fuses it with art for other periods and cultures to extend it to express a personal vision of the world.
