Jane Dell

Biography

Jane Dell is a native New Yorker, Brooklyn-born artist that is currently living and working in Easton, Pennsylvania. Her love of art and painting started in grade school and has been a continuous thread and drive throughout her artistic career. She first studied art at the High School of Music and Art, followed by classes at Parsons School of Design, The School of Visual Arts, and received her BFA from Pratt Institute in 1971. Her paintings and mixed media art have been in numerous New York City group shows, which include the Lesley Heller Workspace, Central Booking Gallery, Gallery Orchard 33, and the Fountain Art Fair. Her work has also been shown in galleries located in Connecticut, Philadelphia, New Jersey, upstate New York, Los Angeles, and at the Expo Arte International, Matera, Italy. She is represented with the Art For Film, NYC.

Her solo exhibitions include a recent NEA Grant awarded from N.Y.C. Charshama non-profit arts organization for her show titled, "Eternal Verities". Other solo exhibitions include “Metaphorical Expressions” at the Monmouth Museum in Lincroft, New Jersey, the Art House, and the Drawing Rooms in Jersey City, “Scrambled Realities” at the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance in Narrowsburg, New York, Gallery; 1978 Gallery in Maplewood, N.J. and “French Curves” at the Creative Center in Chelsea, N.Y. She has been interviewed and featured in a number of art publications, newspapers, and catalogs, and many of her paintings are included in private and permanent collections:

Artist statement

Recent paintings and mixed media collages on Mylar and watercolor paper have been concentrating on expressive shapes, gestures, and forms. They are inspired by fleeting glimpses of life's memories and observing forms in nature. With these complex forms and compositions, the work can be seen to co-exist in a visual narrative. These narratives are a form of fantasy that can be viewed as metaphors. I value and emphasize touch, surface, and color as an expressive function of painting as well and as a major contribution to my work.
