Biography
Kit Callahan grew up in Franklin, NJ. She is an abstract painter using acrylic and watercolor and also does very small drawings 1"x2" and very large drawings 6'x10'. After earning a BFA and an MFA at University of the Arts, London, she lived in London and Ireland for 20 years.
Her work has been shown in the UK, Ireland, Germany and Italy. It is in the collection of The Arts Council of Great Britain and Bolton Museeum and Art Gallery, UK.
In her studio in Long Island City, she creates paintings with ambiguous surfaces using metallic and irridescent mediums.
Artist statement
The inspiration for my painting and drawing is very simple. I have an idea for a color combination or mark. Then I want to see how it will look; if it will be like the image in my mind. In order to find out, I have to make it. Sometimes the result is what I imagined, others not and then there can be the exciting surprise.
