Linda Turner

Biography

Linda Turner, raised in both NYC and Northern Virginia, resides in Brooklyn, NY. She achieved a BFA in Surface Design/Textile Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology, and later completed her Masters in Art Therapy at Pratt Institute. Additionally, Linda has studied at the Arts Students League, SVA, Parsons and painted with Tribeca Underground. ​Linda is a member of art collectives, Spliced Connector and Odetta Digital; additionally, she has participated in various group shows and her work is in private collections around the country.

Artist statement

Linda’s work can look like many things, yet underlying are visual conversations of who she is, of who we are - as individuals, as communities, and in the world. Often Linda creates art to grapple with tough questions, always seeking answers. However, she is just as likely to be relishing simple moments of respite and play, to move forward, enlivened.

Many years spent as a home textile/product designer, combined with training and practice as an art psychotherapist, have informed Linda’s use of pattern, texture, layering and color; for all apply as much to design principles as they do to the human psyche and social condition. 

Scratching, scraping, the push and pull of paint, invite what is hidden to emerge and what has emerged to retreat. Pattern connects what appears to be random, contains what is messy, has us see what is hard to accept, and at times to envision something new.

In all of Linda’s work she seeks to honor the rich complexities of life, and cannot help, sometimes against all odds, to find hope.
