Biography
Priscilla Stadler has presented solo and collaborative work in venues including Flux Factory, the Queens Museum, the New Museum, Art in Odd Places, Shared Dialogues - Shared Space, Local Project, a 19th century Massachusetts barn, and the streets of NYC. Her community-based multidisciplinary collaboration with Bridget Bartolini and Milton X Trujillo, "Almost Home/Casi Llegando a Casa" was funded by MoreArt and the Citizens Committee. Stadler was 2014 Create Change Fellow with The Laundromat Project and a 2016 MoreArt Engaging Artist. In 2009 and 2013 she received "New Works" grants from the Queens Council on the Arts. She completed residencies at the Vermont Studio Center, ACRE (Chicago & Wisconsin), and The Contemporary Artists Center in Troy, NY.
Artist statement
Whether making buildings from cheesecloth, envisioning underground networks between fungi and tree roots, or designing open-ended dialogues as starting points for reflection and community activism that challenges profit-driven real estate development, I explore the resilient and precarious structures of connectedness - sometimes among humans, and sometimes among plants.
Through exploring landscapes - whether those imagined underground or NYC's congested streets - I've learned that things that appear delicate (cloth, communities, and seedlings) can be much tougher and more resilient than they seem.
