Biography
Regina Silvers has been involved with fine art for her whole adult life, as a teacher, curator, art consultant, museum public relations manage, founder and President of TOAST, the TriBeCa Open Artist Studio Tour, founder and Director of the Gallery at Hastings-on-Hudson, and always, practicing artist. She currently manages the White Street Studio, (which she shares with other artists) where she has been making her artwork since 1990.
Artist statement
I draw and I paint. Gestural drawing- whether in paint or dry materials like charcoal or pencil, is an ongoing pursuit of mine, and I am most satisfied when I can combine line and color fluidly and economically. The focus of my work changes as my life changes. Political/activist paintings are a visual diary of my social activism and concern for democracy. The NYC images derive from 4 years of almost daily drawing from my balcony. The Jazz series results from listening and drawing at the weekly Jam Sessions of the NY Jazz Foundation, over a period of almost 2 years. Nature-based paintings grew out of years of sketching while walking on trails, sitting in streams and climbing up mountains. The Crony Scrolls is a series of work made while my friends visited me at my studio. The common thread is my experience.
