Practice & background
Boehnke works across art, science and sustainability. He studied biochemistry at the University of Michigan and sustainable energy technology at Delft University of Technology; his official biography also records art study and teaching at Louisiana State University.
His ceramic sculpture draws on the body, balance, tension and dance-like movement. He also questions the cycle of producing and discarding objects, asking how a maker can pursue craft while reducing material consumption.
The 2024 Open Experimental Studio transformed Glassell Gallery in Baton Rouge into a shared making space with free studio hours, workshops and collaborative projects. At the closing, participants helped reclaim exhibited clay so it could return to future work.
Looking at the work
He reconsiders the relationship between objects, experience and resources through reclaimed clay and open creative processes.
