Biography
Robin Tedesco is an artist and educator working in Philadelphia. She has degrees in Fine Arts from Moore College of Art (BFA), Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and University of Delaware (MFA). Her abstract oil paintings on wood panels utilize many layers of color and reflect her experience living in Italy, New York, and now Philadelphia.
She describes herself as an archeologist and detective. She loves to dig, uncover, restore, resolve, to look for what the light (and dark) reveal and transform. Her wood panels act like etching plates that she pushes color into and prints onto. They combine printmaking, drawing, and painting that interlace to form an image that is cohesive, while also revealing the interior light and form that is present in the layers of pigment and texture. Always finding something to uncover and integrate, it is her commitment to conveying the richness and depth of her experiences and observations in this work.
Her work has been exhibited and is in public and private collections internationally. She has taught all levels of drawing and painting for over 20 years.
Artist statement
The current times, filled with such uncertainty and turmoil, offer me renewed opportunities to "excavate"; digging, scratching, uncovering, restoring; always looking for what the light reveals and transforms. It's a rough journey; adding, subtracting, discovering forms and figurations, covering them; finding new ones.
