Biography
Rosetta Bentz studied at the Art Students' League of New York, the Fashion Institute of Technology, Dieu Donne Paper Mill, and Koho School of Sumi-e painting. She is a painter and a curator. She has exhibited at the Washington Square Gallery, Franklin 54+ Projects Gallery, the Interchurch Center, Mercedes Benz Art Gallery, Queens Community College Art Gallery, La Mama -- La Galleria, Southwest Minnesota State University Art Museum, and the Wisser Library at the NY Institute of Technology. Her works are included in the corporate collections of the Atlantis Hotel, Bahamas, Ritz Carlton Hotels, St. Thomas V.I., and Key Biscayne, Florida.
Artist statement
Wabi Sabi: Japanese world view or aesthetic centered on the acceptance of transience; beauty that is imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete. Characteristics of the wabi-sabi aesthetic include asymmetry, asperity, simplicity, modesty, intimacy, and the suggestion of natural processes.
I am primarily a landscape artist and work predominantly in oils. I create atmospheres that are layered and rich in color and texture. My process is spontaneous and immediate. The goal of my work is to interpret Nature in all phases of movement: growth, expansion, explosion, decay and rebirth. I am endlessly fascinated by the earth's greatness, pulse and power.
