Practice & background
Slipkovich is an artist and designer from Nashville, Tennessee. Quilts and tapestries carry stories, with dolls appearing as characters through which grief, loss and difficult-to-name feelings become visual situations.
In RISD’s 2021 Textiles interview, Sam discusses how industrial knitting machines enabled ideas to take form. The school also reproduces a detail of MM, a 2020 Jacquard textile. Cranbrook Academy of Art identifies Sam with its 2024 Painting MFA cohort.
Yargiwood features I woke up with the sun on my face, No Attractions and Sarah, 2021. Work in Progress also documents Sam’s filet-crochet workshop, emphasizing patience, process and shared making as dimensions of textile practice.
