Biography
Sandra Mack-Valencia is a Colombian painter that lives and works in New York. Sandra nurtures her work from many sources: found images, book remarks, experiences, movies, fashion, etc. She combines photo transfer with drawing and painting. Photography references both reality and memory, while drawing and painting allow her to bring an intuitive response to the materials and the process.
Sandra’s work has been exhibited in museums such as El Museo del Barrio, and the Coney Island Museum in New York. as well as the Museum of Modern Art and the MAJA Museum in Medellín. Her paintings have traveled to Colombia, Amsterdam, Japan, and Italy, where she was part of a public space project through OffSite/ArtBridge. She is a recipient of the Nathalie Angles Award and the Sommerville Arts Prize. Mack-Valencia’s paintings are in private, public, and corporate collections, including the Hotel Monaco, Dunn Development Corporation, the Renaissance Hotel, The Kimpton Hotel in Amsterdam, and many others.
Sandra received her BFA from Universidad de Antioquia in Medellín, and her MFA from Hunter College in New York.

I am a painter that loves stories. I grew up in Medellín, Colombia. Now I live in New York, where the richness of its culture and vibrant energy influence my work. I am inspired by fashion jewelry, literature, and everyday little experiences. I often combine photo transfer with painting. Photography references to reality and memory, while painting allows me to bring an intuitive response to the images.
