Biography
Walter Brown's work is eclectic, encompassing a variety of styles and materials, His primary passion is abstract painting, where he challenges himself to create colorful explorations of line and shape. He references global chaos by reducing the complexity of the human condition to seemingly simplistic images as a means toward a basic understanding of what lines and shapes might actually be.
By focusing on his individuality on this crowded unhappy planet, he yearns for some kind of universality.
His concern for the environment stems from childhood when as a nerdy science student, he dissected frogs and mounted butterflies, which he still feels guilty about.
He has worked with his personal recyclable waste, transforming it into dystopian/utopian versions of some other reality, but anchored directly to his addmittedly unsustainable lifestyle, for which he assumes responsibility. He attempts to obtain security in an unsafe crowded world while attempting to distinguish fact from fancy.
His work has been shown in Cornell Art Museum as part of the TechEffect exhibit (2018 - 2019) and at the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists' Coalition (Certificate of Recognition 2019). Other venues include Scope Art Fair, Aqua Art Fair Miami Beach, Clio Art Fair, La Bodega Gallery, and more.

Artist statement
I am an artist based in New York, currently exploring the interface between abstraction and figuration. I pay attention to contradictions, decisions, imperfections, and indecisions as they appear in the creation of a painting. Given the current political situation, everything suddenly seems crucially relevant. Art is a necessity for our species, proving yet again, that there still exists a positive sensitive aspect of our nature.
