Although at the time (1998) I didn't know to refer to this piece as a "book", in retrospect it was my first artist's book - A story of the NYC Garment Manufacturing Industry of the late 1990s. "Sewing Box" is hand-stitched into a 9"x9"x3" wooden box that's covered with a paper sewing pattern. It includes vintage sewing notions, buttons, and tools, muslin, embroidery thread, and quotes from fliers distributed by a garment workers advocacy group.
