About the work
Steel 8' x 75' x 30' Islip Art Museum, Islip, New York Most of Us Are Immigrants was originally sited on Houston on the Lower East Side, home to successive waves of newcomers for 200 years. This work celebrates immigration as an integral and continuing part of the American experience. The five eight-foot-tall steel vessels weave together the words of immigrants to the US across time and across ethnicity, linking, those of us whose families have been here for a long time and those of us who have arrived very recently. Most of Us Are Immigrants is in the collection of the Islip Museum on Long Island.
