About the work
2019 Life-size ceramic wedding cake in mixed-media, multi-media, viewer participatory installation. Layers of reference to an age-old story and mythology known to many of us. Video projection is a 1967 home movie of scenes from Syma's first wedding, Gallery visitors are invited to stomp gently on her grandmother's satin pouch to trigger the sound of a MAZEL TOV cheer. The headphones offer a YouTube compilation of love songs from the 1960s. Visitors are also invited to use the green tags to write what they are longing for in a relationship, or to express gratitude for a past relationship; then to tie a knot in the tag's string and hitch it to one of the wedding canopy posts.
