Biography
Raqib Shaw was born in Kolkata and grew up in Kashmir. Based in London, he creates richly detailed paintings and sculptures that bring together memories of landscape, imagined worlds and references to art and literature.
His influences span European Old Masters, Persian and Mughal art, and Japanese visual traditions. He manipulates enamel paint with porcupine quills, building intricate surfaces in which beauty and unease coexist.
