Watercolor on paper 30" x 22" 2025 Description: At this point in my series painting a garden, I decided try a new approach with paint. I poured a mixture of watercolor pigment into a container and dripped it around on a fresh sheet of paper. Then I worked from top down deciding where to sketch in Calla with brush. I decided to use only three Calla shapes. The drips came after I put in strong darks using Paynes Grey or a black mixture of Burnt Siena and Ultramarine Blue. This painting was popular and they liked my letting go quality. They also felt all these images were open and colorful and rhythmic. This painting won the Gold Medal top award in the category of Watercolor at the 128th Annual Open Juried Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, at Salmagundi Club in NYC in Nov. 2025.
