Queen Bee (Baia dos Vermelhos, Ilhabela, Brazil)

About the work

Queen Bee 2017 site-specific installation (vinyl, fabric and nails on tree) approx. 60 x 15 x 4” I used an orange Kaftan fabric and some orange vinyl cut in same size circles to create this installation, and hang them to a tree in a beehive formation using long nails. While all bees (circles) look alike, only the one made with Kaftan, mimicked the different morphology of the single queen bee, casting a dark shadow in the midst of all the hundreds of worker bees, whose shadows are orange.
